In Star Trek: Lower Decks, Lt. Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) expresses his desire for Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) to teach him how to tap dance, reminding viewers that Beverly was the dancing doctor on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Although the most recent episode of Lower Decks starts off like any other, Boimler and the other Lower Deckers soon find themselves stranded on the particularly dangerous planet Sherbal V, where kidnapped aliens have been banished by Lower Decks season 4's big bad, ex-Starfleet Academy Cadet Nicholas Locarno (Robert Duncan McNeill).
Throughout Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4, several different non-Federation vessels have been attacked by Locarno, which can seemingly disable multiple different kinds of ships' systems. In Lower Decks season 4, episode 9, "The Inner Fight," Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) reveals that Starfleet has learned that the then-unknown enemy has been targeting former Starfleet officers. Starfleet then provides the Cerritos with the names of four ex-Starfleet officers who need to be found and escorted back to Earth. Upon seeing the names, Boimler exclaims, "Oh, my God, we're gonna meet Beverly Crusher?" Unfortunately for Boimler, the USS Vancouver has been tasked with finding Beverly, but clearly Boimler is a fan of the former Chief Medical Officer of the Enterprise-D.
