Should Star Trek: Legacy get the green light, it could pick up multiple loose threads from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to continue the stories of the titular space station and its crew. Aside from Star Trek: Lower Decks' visit to DS9 and the return of Captain Worf (Michael Dorn) in Star Trek: Picard season 3, the DS9 characters have so far been under-represented in Star Trek's 21st century renaissance. Picard season 3's Changeling plot laid the groundwork for further exploration of the aftermath of DS9's legacy, either in a movie, spinoff show, or in Matalas' dream project Star Trek: Legacy.
Terry Matalas has been open about his desire to continue the story of Star Trek: Picard's 25th century, and it would be an ideal way to revisit Deep Space Nine. Matalas promises that Star Trek: Legacywill continue the story of Star Trek's last generation and its next, by revisiting various beloved characters from the 90s Trek shows. The franchise has already explored the legacy of both the Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager crews, but there's still rich storytelling potential in revisiting stories from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
