WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 1, "The Broken Circle"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 provides another Star Trek: The Original Series origin story in the form of the Vulcan lute played by Lieutenant Commander Spock (Leonard Nimoy). The lyre-style instrument was first seen in Star Trek: TOS season 1, episode 2 "Charlie X". Spock continued to play the Vulcan lute throughout TOS, predominantly during his downtime, but he was also seen to play the lute while deciphering the musical notes found on the planet Amerind in season 3's "The Paradise Syndrome".
Spock wasn't the only Star Trek: The Original Series character to play the Vulcan lute, as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura (NIchelle Nichols) was also a proficient player. Uhura plays the lute in TOS season 1, episode 12, "The Conscience of the King", and had previously accompanied Spock's playing with a song in "Charlie X". Now that Spock (Ethan Peck) has come into possession of the lute in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, it's possible that Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) may start taking lessons from the Vulcan. Here's the origin story for Spock's musical instrument in Strange New Worlds' season 2 premiere.
