The series follows an unlikely crew of misfits who discover the abandoned Starfleet ship USS Protostar in the Tars Lamora prison colony. They commandeer the ship and learn to fly in order to fulfill their dreams and travel the galaxy. In the second half of the first season, the young crew is heading toward Starfleet, only to discover the USS Protostar has a weapon that could rip apart the United Federation of Planets.
Things continue to go downhill when they learn the USS Dauntless is on the hunt for the USS Protostar, with Vice Admiral Janeway eager to learn the fate of her former First Officer Chakotay. The two ships are on a collision course, with the fate of the entire galaxy in the balance as well as the young crew's hopes of becoming part of Starfleet. Star Trek: Prodigy was originally picked up for two seasons but was canceled after only one and removed from Paramount+.
