Star Trek: Legacy could finally update Star Trek: Voyager fans on the fate of the Doctor (Robert Picardo), the USS Voyager's Emergency Medical Hologram. The Doctor's storyline in Star Trek: Voyager was one of the show's standout elements, as it interrogated the ethics of Starfleet's use of holograms. The Emergency Medical Hologram started out as a utility but quickly became accepted as a fully-fledged member of the crew. However, his road to being accepted as a sentient being in the wider Star Trek universe appeared to still be ahead of him by the end of Star Trek: Voyager.
Of the many Star Trek: Voyager characters who've returned in modern Trek, the Doctor is yet to make an appearance. With Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) now Captain of the USS Enteprise-G, Star Trek: Legacy can provide the perfect opportunity for the Doctor's comeback. Seven and the Doctor were close friends during Voyager, so he would fit neatly into the new Enterprise crew either as a guest star or in a more substantial role. It would also finally update viewers on whether the Doctor won his battle to be recognized as an individual.
