A new report that Star Trek 4 is "still on the tracks" to happen has drawn a wave of understandable skepticism from Star Trek fans online. 7 years after Star Trek Beyond left theaters, the long-rumored fourth Star Trek movie produced by J.J. Abrams has resulted in nothing more than false starts, a 2023 release date announced and rescinded by Paramount, and big-name filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Noah Hawley, S.J. Clarkson, and Matt Shakman becoming attached to Star Trek 4 before walking away from the film due to creative differences. Star Trek 4 remains in development hell with no end in sight.
In an interview with Collider to promote her film Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, writer-director Lindsey Anderson Beer was asked about the state of Star Trek 4, which she was working on as a screenwriter. Check out her response below:
It is, it's still on the tracks. I love that project, and it was another one that I had to hop off of to direct this movie, and that was a hard thing to do. But I love that everybody involved with that project."
Naturally, this sparked a series of Tweets from fans understandably skeptical that Star Trek 4 is in the process of being made. Check out a selection of responses to the latest Star Trek 4 news below:
@dramadork884's offers a logical response, especially after the last few years of promises that Star Trek 4 will happen, only for attached writers and directors to abandon the project.
@jimsrippedshirt's shared a popular Kevin James meme that slyly makes fun of how it's quite possible no one at Paramount can say for sure if Star Trek 4 is definitely going to happen.
@jxvipike implores Simon Pegg, Doug Jung, and Justin Lin to return for Star Trek 4. Pegg and Jung co-wrote Star Trek Beyond and Lin directed it. Despite disappointing box office relative to Star Trek 2009 and Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Trek Beyond came closest to recapturing the essence of Star Trek: The Original Series.
@Larkistin89's skepticism is understandable, as it may be hard to believe Star Trek 4 is real until it's actually playing in a theater in front of your eyes.
@musicpaladin cheekily equates Star Trek 4 to famous creatures like the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot; often rumored about, but proof is required it even exists.
