Now that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has brought back "proper" Klingons, it reduces the chances of a return for Star Trek: Discovery's unique version of the classic aliens. Discovery's Klingons were controversial when they first appeared in 2017, and have never appeared elsewhere in the Star Trek franchise. For many, the radical redesign of the Klingons was change for the sake of change and didn't enhance the iconic aliens in any way. It even appears that Star Trek: Discovery has disowned their own Klingons since transporting to the 32nd century.
The Star Trek: Discovery variant could have been featured in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as it takes place in the same time period, but SNW's season 2 premiere changed Discovery's Klingons instead. There's an interesting story at the heart of Discovery's staunchly traditional Klingon sect that could still be explored in DIscovery's fifth and final season. Even if that doesn't happen, however, there are still some other ways that Discovery's Klingons could appear in the wider Star Trek franchise, potentially redeeming this divisive interpretation.
