The long-awaited announcement of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2's premiere date will arrive soon, according to co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman. Strange New Worlds season 1 premiered on May 5th, 2022, and quickly won over old and new Star Trek fans. Boasting a 99% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, Strange New Worlds was lauded for its optimistic return to Star Trek's episodic weekly adventures. However, fans have waited ever since for news about when the already-produced Strange New Worlds season 2 will be streaming on Paramount+.
As reported by TrekMovie.com, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' executive producer Akiva Goldsman delivered a promising update during a talk he gave at MIT on March 15th, 2023. Read what Goldsman told the audience during his lecture below:
Today or tomorrow we’re announcing the airdate of the second season, which we filmed like 17 years ago… and you’ll be really surprised because we just went all over the place. And we’ve just starting filming the third season now.
Despite Goldsman's premiere date prediction, Paramount+ has not yet announced when Strange New Worlds season 2 will premiere. It's a fair bet that Paramount+ will hold off on its official announcement until April 5, 2023, which Star Trek celebrates as First Contact Day. Of course, Goldsman's joke that Strange New Worlds season 2 was filmed "like 17 years ago" is a nod to how the second season was already in production while season 1 streamed on Paramount+.
