The brief glimpse of Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck) drinking with Klingons in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2's trailer sets up the older Spock's (Leonard Nimoy) diplomacy with the Klingons in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Strange New Worlds season 2 will continue the five-year mission of the USS Enterprise commanded by Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). But along with encountering new alien lifeforms, Strange New Worlds brings back the Klingons, at last.
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was the final film centering on the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series, which depicted the beginnings of peace between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets. Captain Spock, who was named Federation Special Envoy to the Klingon Empire, volunteered an aggrieved Captain James T. Kirk and the USS Enterprise-A to negotiate with Klingon Chancellor Gorkon (David Warner). Spock then led an investigation that uncovered a conspiracy at the highest levels of Starfleet and the Klingons to frame Kirk for Gorkon's assassination in order to prevent galactic peace. But Spock being named as Special Envoy was always curious given his and Kirk's past hostility with the Klingons.
