Warning: Contains spoilers for Star Trek #5!The Prophets of Bajor are some of the most powerful beings in the Star Trek universe, and now their power has been redefined with a dark twist. The Prophets were an integral part of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and as the god war now rages across the galaxy in IDW Publishing's current Trek comic, they have taken a side, sending their Emissary Ben Sisko back to stop it. In Star Trek #5, he learns the Prophets have a dark and destructive side to them.
The issue is written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, drawn by Ramon Rosanas and Erik Tamayo, colored by Lee Loughridge and lettered by Clayton Cowles. Captain Sisko and the crew of the USS Theseus have arrived at the God City of T’Kon–the god-killer Kahless’ next target. As Kahless and the Red Path arrive, Sisko suddenly has a vision from the Prophets while on the bridge. Sisko is angry with them; he has followed their instructions to the best of his ability but is still coming up short. He tells them he is severely outgunned–Kahless commands a god-killer and words are all Sisko has. The Prophets then tell Sisko of their creation, the “Orb of Destruction.” Sisko realizes that this Orb is the source of Kahless’ powers; it forms the basis of the god-killer weapon Kahless and the Red Path coerced the Shapers of Sardakesh into building. Sisko is aghast at the idea that the Prophets would create such a device–and they offer no guidance in how to stop it.
