Warning: contains spoilers for Star Trek: Defiant #1!In a shocking move, Star Trek’s Mister Spock has officially been declared an enemy of the Federation. Star Trek: Defiant, the first spinoff from IDW Publishing’s flagship Star Trek title, just launched in a grand fashion, as Worf brings together a ragtag group of 24th-century outlaws and criminals to fight the growing menace of the deicidal Klingon cult known as the Red Path. Spock allies himself with Worf, and when his team steals a starship, Spock and the rest become official enemies of the Federation.
The issue is written by Christopher Cantwell, drawn by Angel Unzueta, colored by Marissa Louise and lettered by Clayton Cowles. The Red Path, a fanatical Klingon cult led by the clone Emperor Kahless, is cutting a path of destruction across the universe, killing its god-like beings; it becomes personal for Worf when his son Alexander joins them. Taking matters into his own hands, Worf leaves the Theseus, crash-landing on a planet in the Romulan Empire. There, he meets Ambassador Spock, who agrees to help Worf in his quest. They realize they need a starship, but they cannot just ask Starfleet for one – so they get creative and steal the Defiant, a ship Worf is greatly familiar with. Shortly after stealing the Defiant, Spock notifies Worf that Starfleet is aware of what happened, and the crew have now been officially declared enemies of the Federation.
