Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 6 – "The Bounty"Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers) appeared to steal the wrong cloaking device in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 6, "The Bounty", but it may not have been a plot hole. Seeking help from Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) takes the USS Titan-A to the Athan Prime Fleet Museum. The museum is the final resting place for Starfleet's most legendary starships including the USS Defiant, and the Klingon Bird-of-Prey used by Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his crew, who dubbed it the HMS Bounty.
As a Klingon vessel, the Bounty is equipped with a cloaking device that allows it to avoid detection from other starships and made it nearly impossible to recover from the bottom of San Francisco bay. This story inspires Jack to steal the cloaking device to hide the Titan as it rescues the away team from Daystrom Station in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 6's climactic scenes. However, installing the Klingon technology onto a modern Starfleet vessel creates an instability that Geordi has to rectify. It's an odd decision by Jack considering there's presumably another, more compatible cloaking device elsewhere at the museum.
