Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Finale – "The Last Generation"A promotion to Admiral somehow eluded Captain Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) in Star Trek: Picard season 3, despite many other characters moving up in rank. Jonathan Frakes is rightfully being hailed for what many fans consider to be his career-best (and Emmy-worthy) performance as Riker in Picard season 3. Yet similar acclaim wasn't heaped upon Captain Riker after he and the crew of the USS Enterprise-D saved Earth and the United Federation of Planets from the Borg.
Captain Riker was the first person Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) called upon for help in Star Trek: Picard season 3, and their attempt to shanghai Will's old command, the USS TItan-A, to rescue Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) kicked off the story. As season 3 progressed, Riker revealed his estrangement to his wife, Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), mourned his son Thad, regained command of the Titan and led it through the Ryton Nebula, was captured on Daystrom Station and held prisoner by Changelings, and Riker joined the "threesome" of Picard and Captain Worf (Michael Dorn) to rescue Jean-Luc's son, Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), and destroy the Borg once and for all.
