Now that Paramount+ has begun producing original Star Trek movies, a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine reunion movie should be top of their list of potential projects. The announcement that the Star Trek: Section 31 movie would be the first original movie for the streaming service allows for future standalone Trek movies to start appearing on Paramount+. The darker tone and more morally complex storylines of DS9 means that a revival could sit comfortably alongside the similarly morally complex Section 31 movie on the streaming service.
Although modern Star Trek has featured an impressive array of legacy characters in recent years, characters from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine have largely been absent. With just a few notable exceptions, the DS9 crew hasn't had anything on the level of Star Trek: Picard or Star Trek: Voyager's stealth sequel, Star Trek: Prodigy. While DS9's ending was more definitive than its Star Trek stablemates, there's still huge narrative potential in revisiting the crew of the titular space station, so it's strange that the franchise has largely shied away from doing just that.
