As Ensign Sidney La Forge in Star Trek: Picard season 3, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut plays Star Trek's newest helmsman, and Ashlei explains how Sidney pilots the USS Titan-A. Sidney La Forge is Star Trek: The Next Generation royalty, as she is the daughter of Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), the former Chief Engineer of the USS Enterprise-D and E. But Sidney became a pilot, not an engineer like her sister Alandra (Mica Burton), which is fitting since Geordi was also the Enterprise's helmsman in TNG season 1.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut clarifies what Sidney's station looks like on the USS Titan's bridge, and how she performs flying the Federation starship. Ashlei was asked whether she was given any special training to play the helmsman of the Titan. Read her quote below:
Not necessarily, I don't know. I'm not gonna remember if they actually zoom in on my console, [on] like the actual things. But there are a couple of buttons on there that kind of say," Lift Off," or certain things, which kind of helps. Otherwise, I'm on my own. And I'm figuring out how to go into warp and doing different things on my own. And also, [there's] history of doing research and seeing how previous people have done it too.
