Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 will show a canonical meeting that sets up Star Trek: The Original Series and is as crucial as Lt. James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) meeting Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck). An alternate version of Captain Kirk appeared in the Strange New Worlds season 1 finale and met Commander Spock for the first time, but that happened in a now-deleted future timeline. Since Strange New Worlds is about the younger versions of many Prime Timeline characters from Star Trek: The Original Series, season 2 is about to make history by showing Kirk meeting a few of his key future USS Enterprise crew members.
J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009 revolved around how James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) assembled his crew aboard the Starship Enterprise, but all of that happened in an alternate Kelvin Timeline. In Star Trek's canonical Prime Timeline, Jim Kirk didn't attend Starfleet Academy at the same time as each member of his Enterprise bridge crew. When Strange New Worlds season 2 begins, Lt. Kirk is stationed aboard the USS Farragut before he comes aboard the Enterprise. Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) took an interest in Kirk in Strange New Worlds' season 1 finale, and Pike may be looking to groom Kirk to become the Enterprise's next Captain. This means Strange New Worlds season 2 will finally show how Kirk and Spock meet in Prime Timeline Star Trek canon, as well as another important Enterprise crew member.
